Prediction and Preview

Brazil  2 - 0  Ecuador

Ecuador possible starting lineup:
Galindez; Ordonez, Pacho, Hincapie, Estupinan; Preciado, Vite, Caicedo, Franco, Plata; Valencia

Brazil possible starting lineup:
Alisson; Vanderson, Danilo, Marquinhos, Augusto; Guimaraes, Gerson; Raphinha, Cunha, Vinicius Junior; Richarlison

There’s a familiar feel to the Ecuador squad named for this international window, with only minor changes since the March call-ups. The four players missing this time are all relatively inexperienced, and their absence is unlikely to disrupt the squad’s cohesion.

Head coach Sebastián Beccacece has maintained a consistent starting XI throughout the qualification campaign, a strategy that has been key to Ecuador’s stability and strong performances.

Expected to feature prominently once again are Champions League winner Willian Pacho, veteran forward Enner Valencia—just three caps away from reaching 100 for his country—and Chelsea’s midfield dynamo Moisés Caicedo, who has already amassed an impressive 53 international appearances at just 23 years of age.

Pacho’s clubmate at Paris Saint-Germain, Marquinhos, will line up on the opposite side for Brazil, having been named in the squad shortly after helping PSG lift the Champions League trophy in Munich.

Brazil, however, will be without some major names. Injuries have sidelined both Rodrygo and Neymar, and despite coach Carlo Ancelotti’s pledge to have his side play in the image of Real Madrid, Vinícius Júnior is the only current Madridista in the squad. Eder Militão and rising star Endrick are also unavailable.

There’s been a notable drop in Premier League representation for Brazil as well. Only seven England-based players are in the current squad—down significantly from over half the roster in March. Notable absentees include Joao Gomes, Andre, Gabriel Magalhães, Joao Pedro, and Murillo.
