Chelsea vs Fluminense: Match Preview
Chelsea are set to shuffle their starting XI following suspensions and injury setbacks ahead of their semi-final clash with Fluminense in New Jersey. Young duo Liam Delap and Levi Colwill will serve bans after picking up bookings in the quarter-final, opening the door for Joao Pedro to lead the line and Tosin Adarabioyo to slot into defence.
Despite being eligible again, Nicolas Jackson was a surprise omission in the previous round and may once again play second fiddle to Pedro. Skipper Reece James suffered a setback in the warm-up last time out, joining Romeo Lavia on the treatment table. However, Moises Caicedo returns from suspension and will anchor the midfield. New signing Jamie Gittens remains ineligible.
Fluminense also face selection dilemmas, with Juan Pablo Freytes and key midfielder Martinelli suspended. Freytes’ absence could prompt a tactical tweak from Renato Gaucho, who has deployed a back three in recent games, with veteran Thiago Silva continuing at the heart of defence despite a nose injury.
In attack, the experienced German Cano and dynamic forward Jhon Arias will again spearhead the Brazilian side’s efforts. Arias, in particular, has been a standout performer, leading the team in shots, dribbles, and chances created throughout the tournament.
