Prediction and Preview

Chelsea 2 - 1 Palmeiras

Palmeiras possible starting lineup:

Weverton; Mayke, Giay, Bruno Fuchs, Vanderlan; Rios, Martinez, Mauricio; Allan, Vitor Roque, Estevao

Chelsea possible starting lineup:

Sanchez; James, Colwill, Badiashile, Cucurella; Enzo, Lavia, Caicedo; Neto, Delap, Palmer

Palmeiras wonderkid Estevao Willian will get his first taste of life against Chelsea should he feature in this clash, before officially joining the Blues at the end of the tournament.

Estevao is one of several new faces in Palmeiras’ starting XI compared to 2022, with Weverton likely to be the only player surviving from the team that lost to Chelsea three years ago.

Gustavo Gomez and Joaquin Piquerez both featured in that 2022 encounter but will be suspended for this match. Meanwhile, Marcos Rocha and Raphael Veiga are unlikely to start, having slipped down the pecking order in recent seasons.

Chelsea, for their part, remain without Nicolas Jackson due to suspension. However, they’ve bolstered their attacking options, with Joao Pedro joining the squad in the United States following his move from Brighton & Hove Albion. Despite that, Liam Delap is expected to retain his place in the starting lineup.

Wesley Fofana is Chelsea’s only current injury absentee, while fellow defender Reece James hopes to stay fit for the remainder of the tournament, having missed out on Chelsea’s 2022 success through injury.

Pedro Neto is the man in form for Chelsea at the moment, having scored in all three appearances at these finals. His contributions have been crucial, especially as Cole Palmer’s form has dipped slightly in recent matches.
